This osprey was actively hunting for fish very near my location, Bodega Bay - it had to make a few dives before it came up with a large rainbow carp, so I was able to get some action shots.
Our hunter gives the photographer a once over,,,,
First dive
Into the water almost on top of a male common loon in breeding colors, the loon itself with a small fish.
Out of the water, no fish
Circling again, wet from its dive
Magnificent bird
Another dive
Out of the water again, no fish
Gaining height again, more determined
Third dive!
These large birds go completely under the water in their dives.
Voila!
Gaining lift, carrying a fish almost the size of the bird, it carries dinner off across the bay...
